NBR hair extensions Empire

Build an empire or be a mom.

Today, on the Date Your Wife podcast, we’re going way back. I met Garrett, my husband, when I was 18 and he was 25 years old. I was in cosmetology school and he was in mortgages. I always knew I wanted to be a mom and looked at doing hair as just a little side hustle or hobby.

It wasn’t until we had two children and financially lost everything that I had to look at my hobby a little bit differently.

I was raised in Utah under a Mormon upbringing. I never questioned any of the rules and felt like I had followed the checklist. It wasn’t until we financially lost everything and became emotionally disconnected after having two children that I decided the checklist was not for me. I had no idea how we even arrived at that spot. We went from buying our dream house in Utah, driving Range Rovers, and looking like the perfect family to being completely exposed.

So, as a hairstylist at 28 years old, broke and emotionally unstable, I decided to launch the brand of Natural Beaded Row hair extensions. At the time, social media barely existed and nobody had a brand. It was just the big names like Paul Mitchell and Vidal Sassoon. But I decided to put myself out there as an educator.

I had created a unique way to attach extensions in the hair based on struggles I had with my own hair and trying to find a healthy solution to hair extensions. So, I launched my first home study course 13 years ago. This was unheard of in my industry. I remember feeling extremely uncomfortable and unqualified.

Over the next decade, I repackaged and rebranded beaded rows. At the time, anything sewn into the hair was looked at as not cool or luxurious. I also was using hand-tied hair, which at the time was the lowest-selling hair in the marketplace.

I had to break free from so many stories and rules from how I was raised, being a mother, a hairstylist, and an entrepreneur. I felt like I had to re-create a new set of rules in every area of my life to become the woman I am today.

Where in your life are you following rules that are not working? Re-create your own rules and set of boundaries.

For me, the power is in the commitment.

So many times, you want the path to be a guarantee before actually committing. But I can tell you from my experience, anything I have built is because of my commitment levels and obsession to get there.

What opportunities are you missing by your lack of commitment? You don’t have to have everything figured out. Life is about learning and growing. I would encourage you to commit to saying yes more often.

Many times in my life, I feel a higher voice. I listen to her. She leads me. She guides me. I trust her. You can call it the Holy Spirit, you can call it intuition, you can call it God, but I believe everybody has this ability to tap into this. For me, it’s a higher energy of somebody giving me guidance, but I have to be willing to listen to that voice and do the work required.

In this podcast, I’m sharing more of my story and how many times as a mom I wanted to quit. But as my brand started to take off, I felt called to help other artists shatter limiting stories as hairstylists and create their brands. I now educate hundreds of hairstylists on the art of NBR hair extensions, as well as mindset and business coaching.

Garrett and I also share many crazy stories we've had individually and together. We talk about how the definition of a power couple is growing individually, but also growing together. We rebuilt our marriage, went on to have two more children, and have built an incredible life together while raising children.

Commit to transforming yourself and watch the impact it will have on others! Make your own rules to give you the results you want.

Tomorrow, a brand new episode of my other podcast, The Big Money Stylist Podcast, comes out, and I have some exciting news about something I’ve been working on all year!

My education and the front face of my brand are getting a makeover, and we have some exciting news!

On my blog, I typically share two podcasts as well as fashion, fitness, and hair tips, so make sure to subscribe to hear the news first!

Thanks for stopping By!

Danielle
