Is your business your mistress?

On this week's episode of the "Date Your Wife" podcast, we're discussing creating a relationship based on want rather than need.

Garrett and I have been married for over 20 years.

Being raised in the culture that we were, after we got married, it was almost like we stopped trying. Garrett went into hyperfocus mode of hunting and building a business. I told myself I was just happy to be a little hairstylist and have my bills paid for. It wasn’t until we financially lost everything and had two kids that we realized how disconnected we were.

Neither of our needs were actually being met, and we felt exposed. So, we had a choice: get divorced and try again with somebody or create a new marriage, something that was long-lasting and impactful.

Feeling unseen and unheard, and also at this time, finding out that my husband had an emotional affair with another woman, I decided to focus on myself.

This is when I launched my brand of natural beaded row hair extensions. I worked on myself by building my business while trying to reconnect with my husband and raise a family. Those were challenging years, but they made me who I am today.

Now we are in an incredible spot with our family, and our relationship. We have 5 children and have rebuilt multiple eight-figure businesses since we lost everything 12 years ago, and I can't imagine what life would look like if we had called it quits!

On this week's episode of the podcast, we discuss that sometimes it’s easier to go to work than face problems in your marriage. Does your business become your mistress? Does your business give you more fulfillment and joy? Is it hard to take a vacation with your significant other because of a lack of sexual connection, chemistry, and, truthfully, your needs are not being met? Trust me, Garrett and I have been through a lot, and now we both have a relationship based on want, not need. Both of us are successful, so we strive to push our relationship to the next level!

Join me on my blog every Monday, where I share a little bit more of my story!
